World Bioenergies sells to Repsol testing volumes of
bio-isobutene derivatives for gasoline formulation

Evry, 19 September 2022 Repsol, the Spain-based multi-energy firm, signed a purchase order order for a quantity of World Bioenergies’ full-bio-ETBE for use for formulation and efficiency evaluation of gasoline.

ETBE is extensively used as a high-octane part in gasoline.

Nevertheless, customary ETBE, which is added as much as round 15% in present gasoline, is just partially renewable as it’s at the moment produced from renewable ethanol mixed with fossil isobutene.

To provide full-bio-ETBE, World Bioenergies transformed wooden residues into isobutene and mixed it with renewable ethanol.

Utilizing full-bio-ETBE in gasoline formulation would robotically improve the share of renewables in gasoline used for street and air transportation, and thus cut back the CO2 emissions of such power streams. It may be one of many key parts to supply renewable gasoline and get nearer to the long-term purpose of internet zero carbon emissions.

Bernard Chaud, Director of Industrial Technique at World Bioenergies, feedback: “We’re thrilled to see our collaboration with Repsol transfer to the following degree. The development of our manufacturing unit in Pomacle is now accomplished, and we’ll quickly be able to produce bigger portions of bio-isobutene and derivatives, which may serve to design, put together and take a look at excessive efficiency formulations of renewable fuels.”
